CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT

Rebeca Amezcua-Hogan Launches Historic Campaign for 4th District

KANSAS CITY, MO — Rebeca Amezcua-Hogan has launched a historic bid for Kansas City, MO’s 4th In-District City Council seat, complete with a slate of unprecedentedly early endorsements from labor, business owners, and leaders across the district who believe in her progressive, problem-solving vision for the city.

“This campaign isn’t about me – it’s about all of us and deciding what sort of city we want to be. This is about building a Kansas City that is affordable, accessible, sustainable, safe, and thriving with opportunity. I want a city where everyone, regardless of zip code, can  afford to live and pursue their dreams, raise a family, start a business, and grow old with dignity. I want to center everyday people in my campaign to ensure we all have a real seat at the table, and can build a welcoming city we can be proud of. This is about a city that works for you and your loved ones,” said Rebeca Amezcua-Hogan.

Rebeca, who will be the first Latina elected in over 20 years and the youngest woman ever elected to Kansas City, MO’s City Council, has already received early endorsements from: Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO, Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council, IBEW Local 124, Ironworkers Local 10, Teamsters Local 41, Teamsters Local 541,  KCFT&SRP Local 691, Plumbers Local 8, Pipe Fitters Local 533, Insulators Local 27, SMART Local 2, Operating Engineers Local 101, Bricklayers Local 15, Sprinkler Fitters Local 314, Communications Workers Local 6360, Roofers Local 20, OPCMIA Local 518, and more.

“Kansas City’s union members aren’t just proud to back Rebeca, we are fired up and ready to work hard to spread her message. Rebeca is the sort of progressive champion that has a futuristic vision of this city that puts the needs of ordinary people first. Working-class people deserve more. They deserve to be able to afford to live where they work, public transit, good jobs, and to have a government that works for them, plain and simple, and Rebeca understands that to her very bones,” said Ralph Oropeza, Business Manager of the Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council.

“Rebeca is a rising star in our community–she’s a grounded, compassionate leader with the sort of energy and vision Kansas City needs moving forward. She will be the sort of Councilwoman who can bring people together across differences to find real solutions. I know that she is going to be the exact kind of voice we need at City Hall and am proud to back her,” said Joni Wickham, former Kansas City, MO Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff.
